Our Favorite Commercial of 2015… so far

Maybe we’re just suckers for men in crazy high heels strutting butt-out in public; but this UK ad for MoneySuperMarket.com makes us feel all warm and tingly inside. Also, we have an ongoing bet as to whether or not those are the man’s real cheeks… if so, congrats, sir.

It’s impressive to note that the ad has a ton of viral punch and is cleaning up with their hashtag-centric #EpicStrut on Twitter. We’re not even in the UK and somehow we found out about the commercial. Kudos to the advertising team for putting together a winning mixture of short-shorts, twerking, blading men, Sharon Osbourne and shocked citizens.

NOW, WERQ!

No Time for Lonely Hearts! Find Your Love on the Internet!

Valentine’s Day is around the corner. No doubt your friends with significant others are already oozing about their delightful plans for Saturday night. And even worse, your mother could start questioning what you’re going to do on that dreaded evening. But you already know the answer to that: pizza, a bottle of wine, pajamas, your bed, and Netflix will be joining you. (That sounds like a lovely evening to me!) But wait! If you don’t want to feel completely alone on Valentine’s Day, you should sign up for Invisible Boyfriend!

What the F is an Invisible Boyfriend?

An invisible boyfriend give you the opportunity to have “real-world and social proof that you’re in a relationship – even if you’re not – so you can get back to living life on your own terms.” Sign up and have real text conversations, share photos, and tell a believable story about your ‘invisible boyfriend.’

You create their profile, filling out how old they are, what they look like, their hobbies and interests and then off you go. If you need help coming up with a story, no problem, invisible boyfriend has got you covered.

Unlike Tinder, Match.com, eHarmony, and the other social networking sites with the missing of helping you find the love of your life or a quick hookup, you will NEVER see Invisible Boyfriend, EVER. On account of he’s not real. But, if you’re obsessed with texting and want to have a somewhat meaningful conversation with someone, this is the way to do so.

Negatives of an Invisible Boyfriend

Intrigued by the site, I decided to sign up. I selected the age of my bae, his interests (which I obviously made similar to mine) his look and where we met. I think anxiously awaited for a text message from “Christopher Cooper.” I received one (seen below). However, after responding I heard nothing back. I talked with my boss and we came to the conclusion that he had broken up with me! WHAT! One text message was all I got? Then, I realized that you had to pay $25 per month in order for Christopher Cooper to actually chat with me! The disappointment and sheer dissatisfaction with Christopher’s need for money was upsetting! What is he a prostitute?! Just kidding, kinda.

Here are the details on what you get for $25 a month:

  • 100 Text Messages
  • 10 Voicemails
  • 1 Handwritten Note
  • Photos (aka selfies!)
  • Personalized Story

NOTE: This isn’t Tinder; so don’t try to sext them. Oh, for all you dudes, don’t worry, there’s an Invisible Girlfriend out there fore you too!

The Essential Guide to Social Media Image Dimensions

We recently blogged about the importance of visuals and how high-quality attractive images and elevate your content. Let’s be honest, blocks of texts are so 90s and in 2015 users are demanding photos! Below, we’ve highlighted the top social media image dimensions you should know so your images don’t get distorted and look like an elementary school kid uploaded them for funsies.

Facebook Image Dimensions

There are four important image dimensions you should know for Facebook: the cover, the post, for an ad, and for the App! Here are some examples that we made. (Note: px is pixels)

Facebook Cover: 851px by 315px

When creating your Facebook Cover banner, be sure to take into consideration your profile picture. Don’t put any important information in the bottom left hand corner!

Facebook Post: 940px by 788px

By following the pixel size, you will ensure that your entire photo will be seen and none of it will be chopped off or hidden.

Facebook Ad: 1200px by 627px

Trying to promote your business? Facebook Ads area great way to do so!

Facebook App: 810px by 450px

Specifically designed for mobile optimization, this dimension works seamlessly to create a photo for those mobile users.

Twitter Image Dimensions

There are only two important image dimensions you should know for Twitter: the header and the post. Here are some examples of what we made.

Twitter Header: 1500px by 500px

Similar to the Facebook Cover, when creating a Twitter Header, you need to take into consideration your profile picture. So, don’t put any pertinent information in the bottom left hand corner!

Twitter Post: 1024px by 512px

Again, by following the dimensions you can ensure that your photo will not be cut short and that your complete message will be broadcast for all to see!

Instagram Dimension

Instagram is simple, there is only one dimension for all photos: 640px by 640px. It is especially important to follow these dimensions on this platform because there is little to no content that goes along with it!

Photos are the Phuture!

We love images, yes we do, we love images how about you? Have fun getting that out of your head for the rest of the day. But, in all seriousness it’s called social MEDIA for a reason. Share more than just text and links online; you will create better audience interaction and social engagement. The goal is always to go viral and the best way to do that is through photos. So, now that you have all the dimensions, it’s time to get creatin’!

Jerk in the Office: Etiquette for Coworking Bullpens

Coworking is the new hip way for freelancers, start-ups, and entrepreneurs to work together, under a single roof, at a relatively low cost. We think Wikipedia summed it up nicely – “the social gathering of a group of people who are still working independently, but…who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with like-minded people in the same space.”

That sounds lovely, right? Strangers coming together to work, with fewer interruptions than they would face at home, right? No. This is a lie! While we love coworking spaces, we’ve recognized a trend: the jerk in the office. Whether man or woman, this person has designated himself or herself as the librarian, constantly shushing individuals or groups as soon as they begin talking. Um, hello it’s called a bullpen for a reason, get some headphones.

While we always try to be conscientious of our coworkers, communication is necessary to running a business. So, below we’ve decided to highlight a few of the best tips for functioning in your coworking space!

Get Use to the Noise

It is called a coworking space, not your private office. There’s a reason you chose to work out of a bullpen rather than at home. Whether it is too many distractions or keeping your work-life balance in check, the coworking space is more beneficial to you than working remote. So, if you feel yourself giving another coworker a dirty look just because they’re talking, get over it, they will probably be done soon.

We love iTunes too, but Use Headphones

People use many different strategies to get their work done. Some need music while others need headphones and complete silence. However, coworking spaces are not meant to be libraries, and listening to music is allowed, but we do recommend using headphones and avoid tapping, humming, and singing along. Let’s face it – that’s tremendously distracting. (P.S. If you see someone with headphones on, they could be in the zone, best bet is to avoid bothering them!)

Take Calls In Conference Rooms or the Break Room (if available)

Phone calls, skype calls, conference calls, and any other type of call should be done in a conference room, if available. If not, find a secluded space in your office and keep your voice down during the call because, remember, everyone can hear you…everyone.

Give a Nice Hello or Goodnight

A casual hello and have a good night are always great ways to befriend your coworkers. As the saying goes, kill them with kindness, and they will have nothing to hold against you besides the fact that you are trying to run your business. Plus, if you wanted to work in complete solitude, you could have stayed home. Coworking spaces are meant to be social and friendly atmospheres that can foster business relationships! Also, be interested in what other folks are working on. By socializing with your neighbor, you may even find opportunities to partner with them!

Coworking Spaces Rule!

To sum up…we love coworking spaces, it’s how we function! But, make sure you join a space that suits your working style or else you’ll just have to deal with whatever annoys you.
